In 1956, Publicações Europa-América published the first volume. The Barracks of the trilogy 08-15 by Hans Hellmut Kirst. The three titles were translated from French, with the author's permission, by José Saramago.
The copy held in the José Saramago Foundation Library in Lisbon was donated by the PT Foundation in June 2015.
