“"All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is different from the others," thus begins Anna Karenina in the French translation by José Saramago in December 1959.
On November 18, 2010, the José Saramago Foundation organized a reading of Anna Karenina at the Galveias Library of the Lisbon City Council, marking the centenary of Leo Tolstoy's death and the publication of this novel translated directly from Russian by António Pescada, under the Relógio d'Água imprint.
