Lisboa Story Center is an «interactive equipment that tells us, from the past to the present, the main events in the city. Built on the hills bathed by the Tagus, and with its eyes set on the Atlantic Ocean, Lisbon is a fascinating mosaic of memories, stories and influences that still mark the urban landscape of this unique city today. »
From Lisbon, José Saramago said in his “words for a city”, text first published in 1999, in Political Sheets 1976-1998:

«But the spirit of Lisbon survives, and it is the spirit that makes cities eternal. Raptured by that crazy love and that divine enthusiasm that live in the poets, Camões wrote one day, speaking of Lisbon: “… a city that easily is a princess”. Let us forgive him for the exaggeration. It is enough that Lisbon is simply what it should be: cultured, modern, clean, organized - without losing anything of its soul. And if all these goodnesses end up making her a queen, so be it. In the republic that we are, queens like this will always be welcome. »

NATIONAL PALACE OF MAFRA

The “Friends of José Saramago” benefit from the same advantages in the National Palace of Mafra as the members of the Groups of Friends of Monuments, Museums, Palaces, Castles and Sites.

«Once upon a time there was a king who made promises to build a convent in Mafra… Once upon a time there were people who built this convent… Once upon a time there was a one-armed soldier and a woman who had powers… Once upon a time there was a priest who wanted to fly and died madly . »
Thus it appears on the back cover of Memorial do Convento, a novel by José Saramago published in 1982.
